We buy stuff everyday that come in different packaging, which we throw away after we unwrap the items we’ve bought, because we never really see the need for it(the packaging) and all it does is litter the place if not disposed off. Right? Right? Wrong.
There are so many ways you can use the packaging that comes with items, as decor for your home, and I am not only talking about positioning your empty pizza boxes strategically, so that every person that walks in will see and know that you’ve been to Pizza Inn at least once in your life. If you want your guests to know how Terrific your Tuesdays are, please, by all means, don’t let me stop you. Go right ahead. Here are four other ways you can turn packaging and wrapping into beautiful pieces of home decor.
Empty carton boxes as bookshelves
This is a really simple and cheap way of storage and recycling. You could use one or stick together as many boxes as you please, of whichever size. Place the bottom side of the box(es) against the wall and place your books in there. If you wish, you could cover the inner side with decorative paper for more colour and uniqueness.
Empty bottles for storage
Too many empty bottles of water, soda or wine? Don’t know what to do with them? Turn them into storage units. Cut the bottles at the quarter, half or three quarter mark, depending on what you want to use it for. You can paint it or use decorative paper here as well to make it look more appealing. Use the bottom part to store your stationery or jewellery. You can even string a couple of cut bottles together and store separate things like spoons in one and forks in the others.
Carton boxes as wall decor
There are so many things empty boxes can be used for, wall decor being one of them. If you have kids, cut out letters from the boxes and stick them on your child’s bedroom wall. They could be letters of the alphabet, their name, or the name of their favorite cartoon or superhero. After you’ve hung them on the wall you could add on tiny lights on them for more appeal.
Shoe box lids as photo frames
Stick a photo on the inside of every shoe box lid you can find then stick them on your wall as one large collage. This way, your guests do not have to ask for your photo album every time they visit, and you get to reuse and recycle. Again, you can paint the insides of the lid in whatever colour you deem fit just before sticking your photo onto it. For more appeal use different shades of colours on different lids. And just like that, instead of having the usual same old picture frames, you have yourself unique frames and a wall that looks utterly beautiful and unique.
Try these out today. It’s making both your home and the world a better place really- to decorate and to recycle.
