Vera Sidika once said that handbags are an essential part to your outfit, and there is some truth to that. However, good handbags don’t come cheap, ranging from Kshs 5000 upwards, you may want to ensure that they last long enough to make you feel like you got appropriate value for your money. If you’re those people who clearly have favorites and always carry just one handbag to every occasion, here are a few tips and tricks to keep the same in tip top shape for longer.

Don’t place Your Bag on the Floor

You’ve probably already done this several times over; I know I have, but not to worry; now you know not to. You don’t know what’s touched the floor, so the last thing to do to your precious bag is place it there. If at a restaurant try place it on the next available chair. Maybe attempt to hold it or place it on your laps if you have nowhere to place it.

Cleaning your Handbag

Its not recommend   to clean your bag regularly, in fact the lessor the better. This is great news, considering it means a little less cleaning in the house.  If you have a leather bag, wash it thoroughly only once a year at most.  When you are planning on washing your bag, it’s important to understand its material, so you’re ensured on how to go by it. But what to do about those stains and odors that develop every once in a while? It’s important to remove stains that appear on your bag right away.

  • If your love for eating causes a few food stains on your handbag, simply crush white chalk and let it sit on the stain overnight, then brush off with a clean cloth in the morning.
  • If the ink in your pen couldn’t behave and stay on paper, use a white eraser to immediately erase the spot, without applying too much pressure so that the color doesn’t come off.
  • To eliminate bad odor from your bag,  keep a plastic bag filled with baking soda inside your handbag, then zip it and leave the baking soda in the bag for one or two days to absorb the odor.

Also ensure that you wipe the handbags you use on a weekly basis with a soft cloth. Handbags are like humans too, they need some time off, alternate with other bags so none grows weary too quickly.

Keep Your Hands Clean

Don’t just keep your bag clean but yourself as well. Buy a hand sanitizer to always ensure your hands are as germ free as possible. Not only will this keep you healthy, but it will also prevent grime from your hands from transferring to your bag. The fewer cleaning products and chemicals you use on your bag, the longer it will last.

Store Your Bags Properly

Don’t just throw them into your closet, they’ll last loner if stored the properly. You should store your bag in an upright position. Also stuff your bags with scarves, sweaters, or tissue paper to help your bag keep its shape.
