Safaricom 4G has been around for some time now but in select areas. Today Safaricom launched expanded 4G which will now cover seven cities in the country. 4G will now be available in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisii, Meru, Nakuru and Kisumu.

Safaricom was the first telco to roll out mobile data in the country. That was in 2003 when they rolled out 2G. It was also the first to launch 3G 5 years later.

What do you need to have to be on 4G?

  • A 4G enabled smartphone
  • A 4G SIM card. You will need to visit a Safaricom shop for a SIM swap. You will not be charged.
  • Data bundles
  • Be in an area where 4G is available.

How do you determine whether you’re on 4G?

As long as you’re a Safaricom, dial *544 and select “Safaricom 4G and SIM check”. Subscribers upgrading to 4G will also be rewarded with a free 4 GB bundle for them to experience the technology and the speeds it delivers.

Why 4G?

4G is speedy and that’s a win in terms of convenience and productivity. With speedy internet you get to do so much more both in terms of work and entertainment.
