The Second Edition of The ONGEA! Music Summit Is Here #LetsONGEA

The music industry in the country is growing and so is the number of summits and festivals to promote it. One such summit is ONGEA! which will be taking place from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th February at Sarit Centre Expo Hall in Westlands Nairobi. This is the second summit, the first one having being held in January last year.

Why should you attend the ONGEA! Summit? There are so many reasons, many of which you’ll discover when you get there, but here are just 6 of them. Entry is absolutely free.

Learn or sharpen your digital skills

Bloggers Association of Kenya are one of the partners at the ONGEA! summit and will be on ground on Friday morning to train on digital skills, ethics, copyright and fair use and other topics pertaining to digital. Digital knowledge is a huge plus for everyone in this age and issues especially about copyright are a must know for players in the music industry. Get more details of the BAKE training here. Networking

You will get to meet and network with industry professionals. You will meet bands, booking agents, artists, associations, management organizations, media houses, record labels, technical suppliers, record labels and many more players in the music industry. This is a powerful resource not just for those actively in the music industry but even regular fans. There will even be a networking lounge courtesy of Extra Dimensions.

Platform for auditions

If you’re a budding musician or believe in your musical talent but have no idea where to begin exposing yourself, the ONGEA! summit is the place to be. For the duration of the summit, every day between 12.30pm and 2.00pm there will be Open Mic for upcoming musicians. On Saturday and Sunday there will also be auditions for Sauti Academy where 2 fully paid 1 year scholarships are up for grabs.

Discover new music

During the summit, there will be 29 show case performances from musicians from different countries like Cameroon, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. These will be every night from 6.00pm to 10.00pm. Great way to learn new music from Kenya and beyond!

Demo

That song or songs you’ve been practicing in the bathroom? You can get to feel its real sound in studio settings. Studio Transparent which is ran by PHAT Intellectual Property will give you an opportunity to record your demo with Artville music for free. What a way to inspire singers to take their music to the next level!

Learn the current state of the industry

There will be panels discussions by experts and thought leaders in the music industry, where they will looking at things like monetizing music, rights and compliance, broadcast, digital distribution, festival bookings ad live sound among many other topics in the industry.
