A St. Patrick’s Evening Of Food, Beer And Quizzes

Having never attended a St Patrick’s day event before, I was not really sure what to look forward to for the Guinness St Patricks Day quiz night. My first thought was of course to wear green, but having never owned anything green, I was a bit conflicted. Would I be under dressed?

Quiz night however, proved to be a pleasant surprise. It was held at The Curragh, a quaint comfortable Irish pub at Ngong Racecourse. The atmosphere had a distinctly welcoming quality about it. Guinness had gone to great lengths to bring a little bit of Ireland to Nairobi for everyone to enjoy. Everyone who came in green was greeted at the door with a shot of something called a baby Guinness, which ironically contained no Guinness (3 parts cream liqueur 1 part Irish coffee). Guinness also had these really cute offers for the night which included t-shirts, shades and Bluetooth speakers.

Quiz night was all it cracked up to be. As with most quiz nights, we were in teams of 4 and the questions demanded that one or most of you be well versed in a number of topics across the board. The music consisted of several Irish bands including the Coors, U2 and The Cranberries. The questions covered 5 topics including Music, Movies, St Patrick’s Day and of course where the Irish are concerned, booze. Competition was stiff especially since a dope Guinness gift hamper and shots for every round won were up for grabs.

Overall, it was a pretty great experience. The atmosphere was cozy and the people friendly.  Guinness went all out in trying to make everyone appreciate a little piece of Ireland. There was plenty of Guinness to go around and the in-house menu at The Curragh was not too shabby either. I especially enjoyed the spicy chicken wings which were A1.  It is definitely something I would attend again.
