What do you look for when buying a phone? Could it be the brand, or the memory capacity? How about design? Would you buy a phone simply for its impeccable design? With the many phones cropping up in the Kenyan market, it is hard to determine which phone suits your desired specification.
OPPO has tapped into this and launched a new phone, The OPPO Find X that will revolutionize how we communicate and how we take selfies. In an event hosted by BAKE at The Nailab, OPPO launched this awesome flagship phone in the Kenyan market just months after it had been released in the Chinese market. Here are some of the features the OPPO Find X Boasts.
Storage
The find X boasts an impressive 256 GB ROM, 8GB RAM and Snapdragon 845 SoC. This gives the user the ability to store as much as you might on your phone. With this much memory, you can efficiently play video games and access your important information without the phone lagging. Cool right? Even more cool is that you can store the excess in the OPPO’s cloud storage O-cloud and share it with friends and family members!
Display
This phone is bezel-less. This means that it doesn’t have a case holding it in place. The phone is all glass! Both the back and the front have 3D glass with a 2.5D treatment to the edge, making it a first in the industry. I was worried about its fragility being all glass but OPPO’s product manager, Ernest Teigut reassured us that it has been tested and can withstand falls of 8 meters high. The best part about its display is the full screen usage of about 93.8% unlike any other phone in the market. It adopts 6.42-inch, dual-arc OLED screen, supporting a display for rich color and vivid pictures. A 19.5:9 aspect ratio further expands the screen range and at the same time ensures a comfortable hand feel, bringing the user a wider view.
Camera
When you think about OPPO, the first thing that comes to mind is selfies. On that front, this phone doesn’t disappoint. Its amazing camera also allows the user A 25MP AI-enhanced camera with 3D AI Beauty Technology. This provides numerous beautification options, making you look adorbs in every picture you take. While designing the FIND X, OPPO moved away from the fingerprint sensor and instead went with 3D Structured Light Facial Recognition which is more secure than the traditional biometric fingerprint.
The FIND X has a unique feature that has not been done in any other mobile phone in the market. That’s right peeps, it has a retractable camera. Considering OPPO is the bomb dot com then it comes to selfies, the camera had to be the best. Should you want to take a selfie, the phone has an inbuilt durable motor that projects the camera up and allows you to take your pictures in high resolutions. Of course, when it comes to moving parts, there will always be worry about wear and tear, or something like water or a grain of sand enters inside these movable parts. We were assured that it has been tested but am still not convinced. Accidents happen.
Battery
OPPO in the past have produced phones that have high battery life but they really outdid themselves with the FIND X . They equipped it with the latest super VOOC flash charge technology that boasts a charging time of 35 minutes for 100% of battery. This allows you to have your phone fully charged in the least amount of time possible, especially in times of crisis or emergency. The phone uses the same charging port as the headphone jack. The traditional jack is not supported and now replaced with wireless headphones. I was disappointed though by the fact, that with a phone that casts this much, why they would not invest in wireless charging. The VOOC charge is awesome, but wireless charging would be amazing.
Design
OPPO added a gradient effect to the frame of the phone giving it a curvy shape and feel. Trust me, a Coca-Cola bottle has nothing on this phone. It also combined gradient color with the 3D curve on the rear side to create a glossy effect that resembles gemstones, so that when you hold it, you feel like you are holding something precious. It comes in two colours, Bordeaux red and Glacier blue. According to OPPO’s PR and communications manager, Mr. James Irungu, the OPPO Find X is not just a smart phone, it’s a piece of art.
Conclusion
I love its capacity to hold twin sims and its accessibility to 4G because you know, this is Kenya and we must siphon internet from wherever. If you are looking for a phone that offers value for your money, the price tag of Ksh 99,990 should not bother you. Besides, as instantaneous as it sounds, it does what it says in the box.
They should consider wireless charging and waterproofing features though. I mean, a 100k phone and not water proof? Come on.
