The World Malaria Day is around the corner where the world uses the opportunity to reflect on steps taken to eradicate the disease that has caused death to millions of people, majority of them children. It is for this reason that the leading African Ecommerce platform Jumia has partnered with Reckitt Benckiser (RB) ahead of World Malaria Day to help eradicate malaria through reduced prices and free delivery of Reckitt Benckiser products on Jumia.
RB a multinational consumer goods company which has always been at the forefront in fighting Malaria will see pesticide Mortein Doom LED sell on Jumia at a discounted price of 30 percent from 550 to 385 shillings. This is quite a winning partnership if you ask me.
Malaria has for decades been almost a household name and this is so unfortunate, and yet it is on the rise as per the 2017 World Malaria report by the World Health Organization (WHO), which states that there were 5 Million more cases in 2016 than in the previous year. Of these, Kenya takes a whole 8% of Malaria deaths. One death is one death too many and every effort has to be made to counter, if not eradicate the disease for good. I think it would be quite right to say that we have all been either infected or affected by Malaria at some point in our lives.
Expectant mothers and children under 5 years of age have weaker immune systems and it is in these groups that the risk of Malaria illness and deaths manifests most. The rains are now here and with it pools of water which are perfect breeding grounds for Malaria and there is an urgent need to take stock of what has already been done, and put in place other measures.
This year’s theme for World Malaria Day set for the 25th of April is “Zero malaria starts with me” and will see concerted efforts to get malaria prevention and treatment back on track.
“We understand the need to empower communities to take control of malaria prevention and cure. We as Jumia have joined hands with Reckitt Benckiser during the upcoming Super Brand Day to offer customers discounts on necessary products like pesticides to help fight malaria”, said Jumia MD, Sam Chappatte
Other health, hygiene and home products by Reckitt Benckiser on both the Jumia website and app will include: Super Brand Day (SBD) which will be held on April 29th from 9 am whereby Jumia customers will be able to shop for these and more exceptional offers plus free delivery within Nairobi for Reckitt Benkiser products. Customers will also stand a chance to win Phones, Washing Machine and vouchers.
