I like how Huawei Kenya is keeping bumper to bumper with our university students, lecturers and tech enthusiasts to make sure that new technologies are communicated accurately and while they’re still hot.
I feel like a broken record every time I have to type that technology is taking over the world, and that there is very little anybody can do without it in this day and age. Whether they’re active every day users or not. When you think about it for example, technology has played a very huge role in keeping the world from buckling during this pandemic.
On an individual level, it has helped us keep in touch with loved ones, be able to access medical help through telemedicine, and for some who are lucky, it has kept their businesses going. Technology has also helped Government keep in touch with people and as the world rises up and embraces the new normal. Technology will be here to jumpstart the digital economy as more Kenyans than ever before use technology for business.
Many industries are being completely transformed by technology this creates a huge opportunity for Kenya: transportation, manufacturing, energy and healthcare especially. Businesses in Kenya are encouraged to digitize fast and grasp new opportunities.
Just yesterday, Huawei launched a new initiative dubbed Unitech Talk, which is a series through which they’ll be sharing industry trends and the latest technologies. I like the fact that this talk is not only for university students and lecturers, but also for tech enthusiasts. This will come in handy in coming up with insights and policies to take the world even more steps ahead.
Mr. Meng above was speaking at the inaugural UniTech Talk. The talk which was attended by 550 university undergraduate, graduate and PHD students covered topics like 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, Edge computing, and development of the tech ecosystem. Also up for discussion was how the pandemic has brought new realities, how ICT is helping fight it and how it will come in handy in economic recovery.
The talk went down really well with the students, with remarks such as:
“We are looking forward to more talks, not only for 5G but also other technologies”
“the lecture has been educating and engaging.”
“This is really ? Huawei. Getting more presentations to enhance our knowledge is a good way of giving back to the community. Very grateful”.
Announcements of the next talk in this series will be made on Twitter @huaweikenya and on Facebook @HuaweiTechnologiesKenya. Meanwhile ICT students are encouraged to sign-up for the 1-week long Seeds for the Future online training program in September organized together with the ICT Authority. Applications are currently open until August 29.
