Jumia, the leading e-commerce platform has provided over 1000 helmets to motorcycle Delivery Associates (riders) in Kenya as part of its Safe and Affordable Helmet Programme with Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The UN Standard high-quality affordable helmets are suitable for hot and humid climates observed in Sub-Saharan Africa. They will be distributed to riders free of charge in support of Jumia’s mission to enhance the well-being of its partners.

“Our riders are on the road every day delivering orders to our customers, their safety is, therefore, our priority. These helmets will enhance their safety on the road. As we all know, safe helmet wearing is among the most effective road safety interventions, which can reduce the number of head injuries of motorcyclists. These UN Certified safe helmets will show Jumia riders that we care about them and that their safety is very important to us.” said  Jumia Kenya CEO, Betty Mwangi.

The helmets have been designed to meet the UN safety standards, as certified by independent experts while ensuring they are best priced in the market. By providing free helmets to its riders, Jumia continues to enhance its mission of the well-being of its employees and partners and continually seeks innovative ways to improve the e-commerce ecosystem.

“We are grateful to Jumia for providing us with these quality Helmets which will go a long way in helping us keep safe on the road during deliveries. It goes to show that Jumia is a caring employer and cares about the well-being and safety of its Delivery Associates. The nature of our job is not easy, and we really appreciate this thoughtful gesture by the company as the helmets will provide adequate protection as we go about delivering online orders to consumers,” said Jumia Kenya Delivery Associate, Ibrahim Kiriswa

Jumia’s safe helmet program is part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 and is intended to help reduce the number of global motorcycle-related fatalities.
