Tecno Spark 10 – A Great Youthful Phone With A Good Price Point

by Femme Staff

In March this year, Tecno released the Spark 10 series that included the Tecno Spark 10C, Spark 10 5G, Spark 10 and Spark 10 Pro. I was able to use the Tecno Spark 10 for some time and here are my thoughts and experience.

The phone has a target market of millennials who have always loved the Spark series, and it is easy to see how Tecno worked towards this. With a trendy starry glass back design, it is funky looking device and comfortable to use. Something else that is quite attractive to the youth is the 8MP selfie camera. There is a selfie wave that has caught on in the last few years and especially among younger people and this clear camera really comes through for this.

Combined with a screen size of 6*6” and resolution of 720*1612 pixels, photos are sharp and clear, just the features to shine with among friends and on social media.

What’s in the box?

The phone comes packaged in a brightly coloured white and orange box, in which there is the phone, 18w charging brick, custom made protective back cover, SIM ejector tool, earphones and a type-c charging cable. There is also the usual user guide literature and warranty card.

Storage and performance

The Tecno Spark 10 comes with 128GB internal memory and 8GB of RAM expandable by a further 8GB virtual memory. It is quite up-to date and runs on Android 13 and Tecno’s custom UI, HiOS 12.6. This is quite sufficient for everyday usage like work, media consumption, photography and video but for those who have the budgets for a higher version, there is the 256GB which comes in the Pro version. I have not experienced any lag with the Spark 10, and I’m quite a heavy user especially for work documents and streaming movies and streaming. I’m didn’t do much of a gaming, but with these specs, the phone should handle this efficiently too.

Cameras

The device performs really well in photography which as mentioned earlier, is a major selling point. The 50MP back camera brings good photography into the palms of budget users and this value for money is always a plus for Tecno throughout their portfolio. Videos will shoot at up to a decent 1080p, and to be fair, this is fine for the price point of the phone. It does not lose much detail for both photos and video.

Battery:

We have a 5000mAh battery supported by 18W charging. In all the phones I use, I find that a fully charged 5000mAh battery is enough for a full day of full use, and that includes basic work, phone calls and a fair among of video streaming. I usually have Spotify playing at almost all times. I do usually start feeling uneasy about charge towards evening but that is expected.

Verdict

At a price of Ksh.19,300/-, the Tecno Spark 10 is a great price considering that the features it comes with are not shabby at all. For university students for instance or young people who are just starting out, this is an amount they can save up or get their parents and guardians to help out with.
