Sustainable Menstrual Kits Distribution In Narok, Homabay, Nyandarua and Kilifi Counties

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) reaffirms its commitment to transforming lives with the continuation of its impactful “Achieve More Girl” initiative. Launched in 2020, the initiative aims to tackle a crucial challenge faced by young girls in marginalized communities – limited access to menstrual health products and education.

The Bank has partnered with the Together for Better Foundation to support 5,000 schoolgirls from Narok, Homabay, Nyandarua and Kilifi counties with access to sustainable menstrual products and menstrual health sessions. The initiative kicked off in Narok county where 1,250 girls from St. Mary’s Secondary School and Ongata Oloirien Mixed Secondary School will receive menstrual hygiene kits including 6 quality reusable sanitary pads which will last them at least 2 years.

Speaking at the distribution in Narok county, DTB Board Director Pamella Ager said “DTB’s purpose is to impact and improve the quality of life for the people living in the communities we operate in. Since the Achieve More Girl launch in 2020, we have made great strides in achieving our goals, empowering over 13,000 girls across the country. These girls can now attend school without the concern of lacking proper menstrual health solutions.”

Under the partnership, 90 women in Narok county will also be trained on how to make affordable reusable sanitary materials to sell in their communities.

In 2020, DTB pledged a substantial investment of Kshs. 50 million to support the aspirations of 30,000 schoolgirls over a span of five years. So far, the Bank has reached 13,102 girls from 12 counties across the country, through strategic partnerships with various organisations and community groups, with a central objective to curtail school absenteeism due to menstruation-related challenges.

Beyond providing menstrual products, the DTB “Achieve More Girl” initiative has been a catalyst for change through educational workshops and open conversations about menstrual health. These efforts aimed to empower young girls with essential knowledge, promoting healthy practices and dismantling stigmas related to menstruation. DTB’s multi-dimensional approach sought to create lasting impact by equipping girls with tools to succeed academically and confidently.

“This is a significant endeavour by DTB that seeks to transform the lives of our girls. This initiative is not just about providing pads. It’s about recognizing the dignity, potential, and aspirations of every girl. It’s about ensuring that they have the same opportunities as their male counterparts to pursue education, achieve their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to our society,” said Agnes Ntutu, Narok County First Lady.

The “Achieve More Girl” initiative is aligned with DTB’s Sustainability and Citizenship agenda and addresses a critical need where the Bank strives to uplift not only the lives of young girls, but also the communities they are an integral part of.
