Networking For Professional Women Courtesy Of LG Electronics And Supa Mamas

Motherhood is a beautiful journey and having it with a community of women, support systems, makes the journey all worth it. This year’s International Women’s Day, I got a chance to celebrate with beautiful women from a group called SupaMamas.

SupaMamas team is a group that was formed from a whatsapp group that later grew into an events and marketing organization led by Christine Kasina. Through the group, women from all walks of life and stages of motherhood grow into a big support system for each other as well as partner with relevant brands. Women equally get accountability partners that ensure that they grow hollistically, both in body, mind, spirit and soul, bounded by a common goal, being mothers or mothers to be.

This year, SupaMamas took it up a notch higher. They not only celebrated the women as usual but they had a very first International Women’s Day dinner. Normally the groups meets on other annual events but for #IWD2024 was a first. They drove the #InspiringInclusivity message using the theme, ‘Empowering the Working Mum’.

The event provided an opportunity for women to celebrate their achievements and share valuable resources for personal and professional growth. Alot of learning came forth from the beautiful line up of the panels of women who inspired growth and challenged the comfort mindeset. Gladys Ogallo, MD Virtual human resources assured that a woman’s journey is worthwhile. She encouraged that instead of fighting the society, women should get in and blend in to the opportunities presented to them. Angela Kariuki from Angie on bonds explained how women need to use their actions toward the opportunities around them to enable them to propel higher. Jane Gaty, Head of marketiong at M.P. Shah hospital empasied on creating a culture and environment that is more accomodating to women, that will encourage more productivity and flexibility.

The biggest sponsors of the event were, LG East Africa. I loved that they talked about the laundromat business concepts that women could take up to empower their financial freedom. The current running laundromats supported by LG East Africa can be found in BuruBuru, Thika road mall ( TRM) and many other across the country totaling to 100 laundromats in Kenya.

“At LG, we recognize the central role of women in our society, especially in regards to the multiple roles they play every day in both their work environments and their homes. On this International Women’s Day, we sought to celebrate them in a unique way that gives them time to unwind, but also the opportunity to interact and share notes with others from different professional experiences,” said LG Electronics Managing Director, Dong Won Lee.

On average, each shop has a supply of about 6 machines which have both washers and dryers. Operating at eight hours a day, the shop operators easily make an average of Kshs. 7,200 per day. The other sponsors present were, Bio milk, Optiven and TeawithMom.
