In the heart of Nairobi’s urban landscape lie many stories of resilience, mentorship, and the transformative power of talent. Meet Lazor (Right), a young upcoming musician whose group Wanati was among those offered a platform to perform at the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournaments in Dandora last weekend.

Growing up in Namba Nane in Kibra and later in Kayole, Lazor’s childhood was marked by both the vibrant energy of his surroundings and the harsh realities of life in the informal areas. Yet, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, he found refuge in music. He’s currently an IT student and has since mastered the art of balancing school and music seamlessly. He sees no reason why he cannot excel in both since he is very keen on technology and at the same time, music will always be in his blood.

It was his uncle Parotty, the revered Lewa hitmaker, who recognized Lazor’s raw talent and became not only his mentor but also his guiding light through the industry. Under his uncle’s tutelage, Lazor honed his skills and discovered a sense of purpose that transcended the challenges of his upbringing.

Determined to be a beacon of hope for his community, Lazor aspires to embark on a mission to nurture the next generation of talents, offering guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for growth. Through grassroots initiatives and community outreach programs, he aims to create a platform where dreams can flourish and voices can be heard.

He describes Safaricom Chapa Dimba as a potential catalyst for change, providing a potential stage not only for aspiring footballers, but also for young artists like himself to showcase their talents and inspire others to pursue their passions fearlessly. He extends his heartfelt gratitude as he acknowledges the invaluable opportunity that Chapa Dimba has offered not only to himself and Wanati, but also to countless aspiring youth countrywide.

Through Safaricom Chapa Dimba, Lazor recognizes the power of visibility, mentorship, and community support in amplifying dreams and fostering a culture of empowerment. He embraces the chance to showcase his talents and inspire others, while simultaneously recognizing the broader impact of the initiative in nurturing and uplifting young talents across Kenya.

Lazor reflects on the abundance of untapped talent within Dandora and other informal areas where countless youth possess remarkable skills but lack the opportunities and guidance to cultivate them. To those who hesitate to step into the limelight, his message is clear: confront your fears, harness your strengths, and believe in your potential. In a world where barriers are meant to be broken, he stands as living proof that dreams know no bounds when fuelled by passion and perseverance.

As Lazor reflects on his journey, he is humbled by the potential impact he could have on his community and remains grateful for the opportunities that could propel him towards his dreams. To the aspiring artists who walk the same streets, he offers a message of hope and resilience, urging them to believe in themselves and never let go of their dreams.
