User Review: The OPPO A60 Impresses with Durability, Design, and Performance

A few weeks ago, OPPO unveiled the OPPO A60 into the Kenyan market. The A60 is a very hardy device that has passed military grade tests for shock resistance as certified MIL-STD 810H. This is a US military standard that tests the durability of military equipment by simulating environmental conditions it may face throughout a lifetime. With one of the biggest killers of phones being falls, OPPO has sorted this by creating a battle-hardened device that has been put through high intensity impact tests, multi angle drops, and other high standard durability tests.

One would think that this is a rough looking device given its obvious strength? Far from it. It is as sleek as we know OPPO phones to be, with classy finishes and comes in beautiful colours of midnight purple and ripple blue. Infact looking at it, one would not immediately pick out how tough it is. I only got the full idea after I saw my colleagues test it out. Here is one of the videos.

Design

As mentioned, the OPPO A60 is a beautiful device with fine finishes. I got my piece in midnight purple, which has a semi glossy finish which stays completely free of fingerprint smudges. The ripple blue option is equally catchy, with a shimmering ripple design that gives off an ocean waves vibe.

The device has an oval camera casing, which I always prefer over the rectangular ones. I feel that oval gives the casing a soft finish that makes the phone stand out. My everyday phone is actually the OPPO Reno 10 which features this same shape of camera casing.

OPPO has kept the design minimalistic with the back only featuring the camera setting and OPPO branding. The top is completely free, the left side features only the SIM tray and the right side has the power and volume buttons. It is at the bottom of the phone that OPPO has concentrated most features, including the charging port, 3.5mm jack slot, loudspeakers and mic.

Display

The OPPO A60 comes in with an impressive 720*1604 Pixels, and an even more impressive 950 nits. This gives the phone users a pleasant experience be it indoors or outdoors, and clear graphics for gamers and people catching up on video content. Also, as a first in entry level smartphones, OPPO has introduced the Splash Touch feature which improves touch accuracy and responsiveness even when the screen is wet. The phone also has an IP54 dust and splash resistance.

Performance

Right off the box, the OPPO A60 comes with Android 14 and ColorOS 14. These, alongside ColorOS’s Trinity Engine enhances the stability and smoothness of the phone by use of advanced technology to maximize use of resources. This is further enhanced by the Snapdragon 680 chipset which uses less power, thus preserving battery to last longer. With an internal memory of 256GB, storage of memories in photos and videos will likely never be a problem. The device has a RAM of 8GB, ensuring users of fast operations without lags and glitches even when multitasking heavily.

Battery

OPPO has always aced battery and for the A60, it comes with a 5000 mAh battery which usually takes me all day without worry. I only get low towards the evening and that’s quite alright with me since the day is over anyway. I’m quite a heavy user since I work on phone a lot and I’ve never run into trouble. For lighter users, the device can stay powered even for 2 to 3 days on a single charge. To get a clearer picture of the longevity of one charge, OPPO promises 14.75 video playback on a single charge, and 30 hours on phone call. That is a very strong long-lasting battery.

Along with a strong battery comes a 45W fast charger which will go to 50% in just half an hour.

Camera

This is another area where OPPO has always shined and the A60 is no exception. The phone has a 50MP main camera with enhanced features like LED flash, HDR and panorama. The camera has a Hi-Res feature which gives users ultra clear photos with stunning colour quality, perfect for those memories with family and friends or even for sharing on social media. For selfie lovers, OPPO has equipped the A60 with an 8MP front camera.

Conclusion

There is so much more to devices than can be captured in one article. These are the quick stats and they are already indicative of the quality of the device. For the price of Ksh. 29,500/- this is certainly a worthy purchase since it puts some flagship features for entry level phone owners to enjoy.

Go for it.
