Epson Wins 2024 WorldStar Award for Eco-Friendly Cushioning Made from Recycled Copier Paper

Epson Corporation, a leading global technology company, announced that its innovative cushioning material, made from recycled copier paper, has won the WorldStar Global Packaging Award 2024 in the Electronics category. This marks Epson’s second WorldStar Award, with their first win in 2007 for ink packaging for large-format inkjet printers.

The WorldStar Awards are organized by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), which is an international federation of packaging institutes, associations, and other stakeholders.
To enter, packages must have previously won national or regional awards. Winners are selected based on their excellence in packaging technology and design.

Epson’s Regional Head for East and West Africa Mukesh Bector, says the transition from petroleum-based to eco-friendly, paper-based cushioning materials marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability.

“By utilizing used copier paper collected through our internal recycling system and leveraging our proprietary Dry Fiber Technology, we have created cushioning materials that not only meet but exceed the performance of traditional materials. This innovation allows us to maintain the same packaging dimensions while promoting resource circulation and ease of recycling, reflecting our dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.” Says Bector.

The WorldStar Award recognizes Epson’s excellence in packaging technology and environmental initiatives. Additionally, this packaging material has received the President of Japan Productivity Center for Socio-Economic Development Award in the Japan Packaging Contest 2023 and an award in the Transportation Package category at the AsiaStar 2023 Awards. The WorldStar Global Packaging Award 2024 is the third major recognition for Epson’s packaging technology and environmental efforts globally.

Epson remains dedicated to reducing, reusing, and recycling resources in packaging. The company plans to further apply Dry Fiber Technology and other environmental innovations to achieve sustainability goals outlined in the Epson 25 Renewed corporate vision.
