by Femme Staff

Medic East Africa, the premier healthcare and medical laboratory event in East Africa, is set to redefine healthcare service delivery in the region from 4-6 September 2024, at the renowned Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

This year’s convention will be the largest gathering of medical professionals and industry leaders in East Africa. It is anticipated that over 8 000 healthcare and medical lab professional visits, more than 200 exhibitors, and 500 delegates from across the globe will journey to the region for the show.

“Our vision is to give these leading medical experts a dynamic platform to share knowledge, expand their business networks, and showcase the latest advancements in health products and technologies,” said Amogh Wadwalkar, Exhibition Manager at Informa Markets Healthcare.

A global innovation showcase

An exciting addition to this year’s exhibition is the new country pavilions from Egypt, South Africa, and Brazil. Each will showcase their most advanced medical devices and services to meet East Africa’s healthcare needs.

Within these pavilions, exhibitors will offer unique insights into the diverse health challenges and innovations from these countries, fostering greater international collaboration and trade opportunities.

Visitors can expect a thrilling showcase from leading manufacturers like Siemens Healthineers, Abbott and Snibe. First-time exhibitor LG will join the likes of Mindray, United Imaging and Crown Healthcare at this year’s show.

“Medical software innovators Dedalus Global, molecular diagnostics pioneer Qiagenand Nairobi’s own medtech experts, Medware Solutions, will also bring a wealth of insights and innovations to this year’s meeting,” adds Wadwalkar.

Scientific conferences to advance knowledge and expertise

In addition to a bustling exhibition floor, Medlab East Africa will offer three scientific conferences on each day to bolster the skills and knowledge of visitors in critical fields such as:

  • Molecular diagnostics & genomics: Nathan Shaviya, senior lecturer in medical biotechnology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, will lead a session on molecular genetic testing and the future of clinical genomics.
  • Laboratory management: Digital pathology has emerged as a route to ensuring timely results and optimising patient care. Medical laboratory experts  will present a case study on how management systems in Kenya are leading to improved outcomes for patients and professionals.
  • Clinical microbiology: As concerns around  infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance grow in the region, Dr Martha Mushi of the Weill Bugando School of Medicine will showcase how to perform mycology diagnosis in low resource settings.

The Healthcare 2.0 East Africa Summit will feature a series of in-depth events for visitors to engage and learn about:

  • Leading healthcare institutions through times of transformation: This panel discussion will feature experts like Dr Rose Oronje from the African Institute for Development Policy, and Dr Wasunna Owino of the Pharmaccess Foundation to name a few.
  • Building resilient health systems in times of crisis and change: Here CEOs from leading East African hospital’s will join the Kenya Medical Association to unpack the issue of ‘brain drain’ of healthcare professionals in Africa as well as how to optimise the cost of care.

“Both conference tracks are designed for multidisciplinary professionals who wish to sharpen their skills and broaden their horizons with collaborative approaches to problem solving,” says Wadwalkar.

Seamless travel and exclusive partnerships

To facilitate seamless travel, Medic East Africa delegates can take advantage of flight discounts on Kenya Airways and exclusive hotel discounts between 28 August and 10 September 2024.
