Sarova Hotels & Resorts, Kenya’s leading indigenous hospitality brand, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, saw the celebrations culminate with an appreciation dinner to its customers, partners, and employees, which was graced by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano. This milestone is a testament to half a century of unparalleled service, resilience, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Established in April 1974 with the opening of Ambassadeur Hotel in Nairobi, Sarova Hotels & Resorts has grown into a renowned hospitality powerhouse with nine distinguished properties under its brand, collectively offering 1,165 guest bedrooms. From its modest beginnings, the company has expanded and embraced innovation and remained steadfast in its commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Reflecting on this historic occasion, Sarova Hotels & Resorts Managing Director, Jimi Kariuki remarked, “Today, we gather to celebrate not just a milestone, but a journey of resilience, adaptation, and enduring commitment to excellence. Our 50 years in operation epitomizes the spirit of progress, innovation, and unwavering dedication that defines Sarova Hotels & Resorts.”

Throughout its five-decade journey, Sarova Hotels & Resorts has not only grown its portfolio but has also diversified its business model to include hotel management services, strategic partnerships, and the launch of standalone specialty restaurants.

“At Sarova, we believe in the power of community, culture, and the human element. These principles have sustained us beyond just accommodation and culinary experiences. We have been a pillar of support for our local stakeholders, offering employment opportunities, engaging in wildlife conservation, and contributing to education, healthcare, and sustainability projects.” He added

Sarova Hotels has successfully managed several properties, including Taita Hills Safari Lodge and Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Tsavo for 13 years, Sarova Mara Game Camp since 1984, Sarova Woodlands Hotel & Spa in Nakuru since 2017, and Sarova Imperial Hotel in Kisumu since 2022.

The hospitality firm has further expanded its brand through franchise agreements, such as the one with Maiyan Resort, now rebranded as Sarova Maiyan Resort Nanyuki.

Speaking during the celebration event that was held at the Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi, Cabinet Secretary, Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano said, “Today Sarova continues to stand strong as a Kenyan hospitality brand, contributing positively to the success of the tourism industry in Kenya. The strategic positioning of Sarova Hotels & Resorts in Nairobi and beyond serves as a hub not only for Kenya but East Africa which makes them an attractive accommodation for hospitality and residence brands.”

In 2023, Sarova also launched its first standalone specialty restaurant, Thai Chi by Sarova, in Nairobi, which is an extension of the Thai Chi Restaurant at Sarova Stanley.
