The round of fixtures opens on Friday, 1 November with the match between Alaves and Mallorca at the Mendizorrotza Stadium. Mali international Moussa Diarra will be keen to grab a clean sheet in this one for Alaves to make a statement.
The 6’5 defender joined the club during the summer transfer window and has made eight appearances already. “One of the first things they told me about Alavés was about their fans. They told me about motivated fans, who always support, that’s what we need,” says.
“I am a good defender, a hard-working player, I love football and I love teamwork. I think Alavés and I will integrate well.”
The headliner on Saturday, 2 November sees Valencia take on Real Madrid at the Mestalla Stadium. And this could be a tricky one, since Los Blancos will be seeking vengeance from their embarrassing 4-0 El Clasico loss to Barcelona.
17-year-old Nigerian winger David Otorbi has featured once for Los Ches, and a chance to make an impact in this match is an opportunity that any teenage footballer will look forward to.
The advice from the youngster’s coach Ruben Baraja is to “switch off the phone” so that he can focus. “He’s a kid and we all think he has enormous future possibilities. He should also turn off his mobile phone,” he said.
Sunday, 3 November brings a potential thriller in the form of the match between Sevilla and Real Socidedad at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. With five appearances so far, Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is yet to open his account in La Liga.
According to reports, Sevilla is set to offload the player during the January transfer window. Which would be really disappointing, because he just joined the club in the summer.
But, not to despair, his coach Garcia Pimienta says that he’s prepared to give Iheanacho more game time.
“I’m happy, the other day he was going to come on to the pitch. But Suso’s injury happened and that was a huge impact on us because he’s training well. The lad deserves to play more minutes,” said Pimienta.
The action from Matchday 12 concludes on Monday, 4 November as Celta Vigo locks horns with Getafe at Estadio de Balaidos.
