Glee Nairobi, a new Luxury 5-star Hotel located in Runda, and an L.V.X Member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts, has kicked off its festive lineup of activities by hosting a cake mixing ceremony that signals the start of the Christmas festivities.
While Glee Nairobi joins other hotels in the annual cake mixing to usher in the Christmas season, most people might not be privy to the origin and history of this festive tradition.

This heartwarming custom traces its roots back to the British Raj era in India. During the colonial period, the British introduced Christmas celebrations to India, which included lavish parties and feasts. Cake mixing, a precursor to the Christmas plum cake, became a popular part of these festivities.

The process involved mixing dried fruits, nuts, spices and other ingredients, which were then left to soak in rum or brandy for several weeks. This infusion of flavours and the communal act of mixing the ingredients created a sense of anticipation and excitement building up to the grand finale, the baking of the Christmas cake.

Today, cake mixing continues to be a beloved tradition in many parts of the world including Kenya. It’s a time to come together, celebrate the joy of the season and indulge in the anticipation of sweet treats to come.

Glee Nairobi is excited to be part of this heartwarming tradition in Kenya and the world’s hospitality scene. From 20th November 2024 to 2nd January 2025, guests at Glee Nairobi will be in for a special treat, from Christmas Tree Lighting on November 29th, and Tea with Santa on December 21st to a Purple Christmas luncheon.

The icing on the cake will be a NYE Soiree filled with glitz and glamour that will be capped off by a spectacular fireworks display to usher in the New Year. Headlining the soiree will be a vibrant live band performance by Sarakasi and DJ John Rabar. The New Year’s after party will then continue at the Ruby Nightclub, located within Glee Nairobi.
