Safaricom Foundation Empowers Communities Through Shine Kenya Campaign Projects

by Femme Staff

The handover of the Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa Community projects supported by the Safaricom Foundation continued in Nakuru and Nairobi counties.

The community projects are championed by the community heroes who won KES 1M in the Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa campaign. The campaign saw a total of 31 customers from across Kenya each win KES 1M. Each of these weekly winners received an additional KES.250,000 courtesy of Safaricom Foundation to support and empower their communities with a project of their choice. These are the projects currently under implementation.

In Nairobi County, Kuria Kanyingi chose to support Bethsaida Children’s Home in Kahawa West with bedding and other necessities.

“I come from this area, and I have always desired to support Bethsaida Children’s home. When I realised, I have KES 250,000 for community development courtesy of Safaricom foundation, I knew this was my opportunity to bring change. I am glad that Safaricom have kept their word and have come strongly to support these children. They have continued to be the transformation that they have always said they are. “Said Kuria Kanyingi.

Meanwhile, in Nakuru County, AIC Maai Mahiu Children’s Home girls’ dormitory was equipped with bedding courtesy of Margaret Wamaitha who also won in the Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa weekly draws. Moved by the challenging sleeping conditions the girls faced, Margaret chose to channel her community development funds into improving their living environment, ensuring they have a more comfortable and dignified place to rest.

“As AIC Maai Mahiu Children’s home, we are deeply touched by Margaret’s grand gesture. We are honoured that she chose to share her reward with our facility. She has filled a gap at our home as these beddings will go a long way in providing more comfortable sleeping conditions for these vulnerable children. To the Safaricom Foundation, we are equally delighted by the incredible work you are doing to support and transform the lives of Kenyans,” said Moses Kiragu, Team leader at Maai Mahiu children’s home.

The Shine Kenya Shinda Mamilii Kama Bingwa campaign launched in June this year, rewarded over 2.5 million Safaricom customers across the country with cash, airtime, and data, among other prizes.

Currently, through the Safaricom Foundation, the campaign is actualising the winners’ dreams of supporting their communities through community-centric projects.
