Looking for a quiet escape from the city of Nairobi without feeling too far removed? Hemingway’s Eden Residence is the place for you. Tucked away in an exclusive part of Karen, the hotel is exactly what I would describe as quaint and inviting.
When I walked in on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025 with my colleagues, I was put right at home by the live band playing soft music. For a lover of live bands like me, this was the perfect way to kick off a relaxed, fulfilling afternoon. Add to that the cozy feel of the place, which happens to be just small enough to accommodate a sizeable crowd and still feel warm and inviting.
True to its charm, the space was ideal for intimate celebrations. At the next table, a family was celebrating a birthday, and we happily joined in to share our good wishes with the birthday gentleman.

Hemingway’s Eden is tastefully decorated to give an almost rustic feel, a style that complemented the expansive grounds and the backdrop of a small water body that tied everything together. The bar is neat with professional staff who kept us satisfied with our favourite shots, cocktails, mocktails, coffees and herbal teas.
The food was delectable, fresh, and beautifully presented. Good food stands out and you could just tell that the ingredients used were fresh and full of flavor. We enjoyed an assortment of breads, salads, pastries and wraps, with my favourite being the samosas. The service was attentive but not intrusive, allowing us to enjoy our time without interruptions.

Walking through the different sections of the property, I got a sense of refined charm, steeped in rich history. The library, for instance, gave off an old-world vibe, drawing me in instantly since I’m a history lover. The lounge areas were huge, inviting, and rustic, with tasteful décor and attention to detail. We went to the lounge after dark, but you could tell that the place is naturally well-lit even in the day given the large windows.

The sleeping quarters feature rich, classy décor with some interesting, explicit artworks, which were quite the conversation starters. Hemingways has managed to give the space a comfortable lived-in aura as opposed to that clinical vibe that some hotels tend to have.
My favorite part of the property was the well-maintained grounds. The soft grass invited some of us to instinctively take off our shoes and walk barefoot, something I hadn’t done in a long time. Tall trees provided shade, and the fresh air made it the perfect setting for a lazy afternoon. I could picture myself in one of the quiet corners of the gardens with a book and a glass of wine, given that the staff are non-intrusive though very efficient.

The afternoon quickly stretched into nightfall and to cap the day, we gathered around an outdoor bonfire for a polite evening with traditional Samburu music. It was such a fitting way to end a great day, with more snacks, cocktails, and great company. Bonfires have some magic about them and this one was no exception, creating an authentic experience for us to end the day.
Hemingway’s Eden is carefully curated, and every detail tells a story. From the restaurant, boutique, artworks, and bookshelves, the balance of history and service is impeccable. Whether one is seeking a quiet meal or a weekend retreat, it delivers on the promise of peace, quiet, and charm.
