Reigning KCB Women’s Volleyball Champions will on Tuesday next week depart for Abuja, Nigeria for the 46th edition of the African Club Championship scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium from April 1st – 14th, 2025.
Under the expert guidance of Head Coach Japheth Munala, KCB will face off against some of the continent’s top volleyball powerhouses, including Zamalek, Al Ahly, and Nigeria Customs Service, in the highly anticipated two-week tournament.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka the team’s patron Judi Sidi Odhiambo said: “As we step into this competition, I know the challenge ahead is tough. With powerhouses like Al Ahly, Zamalek, and other top teams in the mix, the battle will be fierce. I urge the team to remain confident, composed, and play the exceptional volleyball we all know of them. This year, we are here to make a statement once again, to reaffirm our place among the greats of this sport.”
The traveling squad will include Edith Wisa, Mercy Moim, Lincy Jeruto, Josphine Nafula, Belinda Barasa, Pauline Chemutai, Sharon Serem, Juliana Namutira, Shirleen Maywa, Faith Cherotich, Marlene Terry, Deborah Jesang, Sheilah Wabwire and Fridah Boke.
In the 2024 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, KCB Women’s Volleyball Team reached the semifinals but were defeated by Egypt’s Zamalek with a score of 3-1. Consequently, KCB faced Kenya Pipeline in the third-place playoff match. Notably, KCB had previously secured the prestigious championship title in 2022.
“We have nurtured exceptional players who have showcased Kenya’s incredible depth of talent on the global stage. Stars like Mercy Moim, Edith Wisa, Juliana Namutira, and Belinda Barasa have made us proud, reinforcing our role in providing them with a platform to excel,” added Odhiambo.
24 teams have so far registered for the continental trophy including Zamalek, Al Ahly, Nigeria Customes Service, AS Douanes Volleyball Club, Sococim Volleyball Club, Force Armees et Police, Litto Team Volleyball, Maya Kane Evolution, Spiking Stars Volleyball Club, Queen’s Volleyball Club. From Kenya, KCB will be joined by rivals Kenya Pipeline, and Kenya Prisons.
