Earlier this month, Kigali played host to the prestigious Inclusive Fintech Forum 2025 (IFF) and as a leader in modern financial service provision, NCBA Bank was a proud participant to showcase how fintech is driving digital transformation across the continent and subsequently driving financial inclusion and economic growth. IFF is an event that brings together leaders in the fintech field globally, investors, and policymakers to discuss financial solutions and how they empower millions of individuals and entrepreneurs to build the economy.

NCBA took centre stage at the forum not just to present their solutions but to demonstrate real impact on ground. With millions of Africans relying on its digital financial solutions daily, the bank continues to redefine what it means to be in touch with people’s needs in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

NCBA has a host of its groundbreaking digital solutions that are making financial services more accessible, convenient, and inclusive. In this article, we will look at a few of them and the impact they have on users.

NCBA Loop

Loop is a trendy financial platform geared toward the tech-savvy customer, given its targeted innovation, convenience, and flexibility. Loop’s modern and well-thought-out features have enabled customers to enjoy an array of services like safe and seamless transactions, credit facilities, wealth management options, and enticing cash-back offers. It also offers other rewards from the transactions made on the Loop App or Loop Card payments.

It also supports loan repayments and customizable alerts. With these features, NCBA ensures a secure and efficient banking solution tailored to its customers’ needs.

M-Shwari

M-Shwari, a mobile banking and borrowing service, has over the years banked the unbanked in droves and transformed the saving and borrowing culture in the country. The hugely successful platform was developed in a partnership between NCBA Bank and Safaricom’s M-Pesa, and one of its biggest winning points is the ease of use.

Since its launch, M-Shwari has achieved remarkable success, including;

  • Over 32 million people have joined the platform
  • More than USD 6 billion has been disbursed in loans
  • Customer savings have exceeded USD 400 million

One of the biggest hindrances to successful entrepreneurship and financial independence is lack of access to credit and this is part of the pain points that M-Shwari solves. By encouraging a savings culture alongside credit access, NCBA is ensuring that individuals and small businesses can build a more secure financial future.

Fuliza

Fuliza is a life-changing service that enables Kenyans to access instant mobile loans. For a possibility that we could not have thought of just a few years ago, the platform built in partnership with Safaricom boasts over 3.5 million transactions daily and over USD 22.4 billion in loan disbursement since launch. This is a demonstration of impact by a lifeline that is affordable and easily available for everyday uses like paying bills, buying stock for business, or simply getting through the day.

Kenya’s embracing of finance is clear in many NCBA services, and more so Fuliza and M-Shwari, both born from partnerships with Safaricom. They have evolved the borrowing culture and redefined access to credit in the country, empowered millions, and made financial inclusion a reality. M-Pesa recently turned 18, and it is befitting to celebrate this milestone along with partnerships that have contributed to its success.

MoKash

In partnership with MTN Mobile Money and Vodacom, NCBA has taken financial inclusion beyond Kenya through its MoKash product. Available in Uganda, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, and Tanzania, MoKash provides mobile loans and savings solutions to millions. Currently, 29.8 million customers are served on this platform, facilitating loans exceeding USD 1.2 billion.

This goes to show how NCBA’s money transfer services go beyond local and regional transfers and how the bank has ensured that customers stay connected across continents. For many people in these countries, MoKash is their first step into the formal digital financial system, giving them the ability to save and borrow outside the barriers of traditional banking.

Remittance services

NCBA has actively pursued partnerships with fintech firms like Xpress Money and NALA Payments to enhance remittance services across Africa. Under these partnerships, the firms aim to lower remittance fees for diaspora communities, make remittance transfers faster and more reliable, and expand access to financial services among families that rely on remittances. This way, NCBA ensures Africans in the diaspora can support their loved ones without incurring high fees or long waiting periods.

These are just a few products and we will be delving more into the bank’s modern banking practices over the next few months. By strengthening its digital infrastructure, the bank is future-proofing its operations to meet the needs of an increasingly digital-savvy customer base.

NCBA Group’s forward-thinking products, services, innovation, and efficiency have culminated in robust financial performance over the years. The bank’s strategic focus on digital lending led to the disbursement of an impressive Ksh 1.0 trillion in digital loans, marking a 23% increase. The bank’s strategic expansion of its branch network is also quite a big contributor since it increased customer access to services. Read the full results here, including key highlights.
