I am filled with immense pride and joy to celebrate the incredible achievement of Charlot Magayi, the founder of Mukuru Clean Stoves, who has been recognized on the prestigious Forbes list of Sustainability leaders. Charlot’s groundbreaking work through Mukuru Clean Stoves has not only transformed lives in Kenya but has also positioned her as a shining example of innovation and leadership on the global stage.
At Mukuru Clean Stoves (MCS) we repurpose locally sourced waste metal to manufacture improved, efficient, and reliable cookstoves and the we partner with local women business owners to distribute to the last mile.
Over the past seven years, Charlot’s company has sold over 400,000 clean cookstoves in Kenya, directly improving the lives of more than 2 million people. This remarkable achievement has led to significant economic benefits for households and savings in energy costs. Beyond financial savings, her initiative has had a profound environmental impact, helping avoid nearly 1 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. In an era where climate change is a pressing global concern, this achievement cannot be overstated.
Mukuru Clean Stoves’ innovation goes even further. By repurposing locally sourced waste metal, Charlot has created a sustainable product that not only reduces environmental waste but also creates jobs and contributes to the local economy. The development of mosquito-repellent fuel to power the stoves is another impressive leap forward, particularly in regions prone to malaria outbreaks. This dual-purpose innovation is a testament to Charlot’s vision of creating solutions that address multiple challenges faced by communities.
What is even more inspiring is how Mukuru Clean Stoves has quadrupled its revenue year after year, showcasing the power of sustainable business models that prioritize social impact. Charlot’s success story serves as a beacon of hope for Kenyan entrepreneurs, especially women, proving that with determination, innovation, and a focus on social good, it is possible to create lasting change.
As Charlot continues to grow her impact, I wholeheartedly congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition. She is not just a Kenyan success story but a global one, and her work continues to inspire millions. Wishing Charlot all the best in her journey ahead – may she continue to uplift communities, empower women, and lead the way in sustainable innovation. We are immensely proud of you!
