Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in Kenya, has opened its 25th store at Runda Mall in Nairobi. The opening comes just one month after the launch of a store in Ruiru town, signalling the retailer’s accelerated expansion in the country.
Spanning over 2,500 square meters, the store offers a wide selection of products, including fresh produce, electronics, and everyday household necessities. The new store also features Carrefour’s innovative self-checkout service, allowing customers to shop and complete purchases without needing assistance from cashiers, enhancing convenience and reducing waiting time at checkout. This brings the number of Carrefour stores offering the service to five, including the Westgate Shopping Mall, the Village Market, the Hub, and GTC Mall stores.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, commented: “Our newest store at Runda Mall allows us to continue serving the diverse needs and preferences of our customers in the area while contributing to the country’s economic development through job creation and promotion of modern retail trade.”
The new store is expected to create 46 job opportunities, adding to Carrefour’s existing workforce of over 2,600 colleagues in Kenya – 99 per cent of whom are local talent. Additionally, the new store will serve as an additional platform for local suppliers, promoting homegrown manufacturers, SMEs, and farmers.
Orcet added: “We are proud to expand our footprint in the country and continue collaborating with local suppliers and farmers to bring fresh, high-quality products to our customers every day.”
This new location builds on Carrefour’s network of 25 stores across the country, with 20 located in Nairobi, two in Kisumu, and three in Mombasa.
