Diamonds Malindi, one of the resorts managed by Plan Hotel, marked its 40th anniversary with an unforgettable festive season experience. Guests booking a minimum of seven nights at Ananea Diamonds Malindi will be treated to an exclusive one-night safari at Kudu Camp, including a full-day game drive. This exciting offer seamlessly combines coastal relaxation with an adventurous escape into Kenya’s wilderness.

Speaking at the grand 40th-anniversary dinner, Mr. Paolo Rosso, Co-Owner of Diamonds Malindi, expressed gratitude for the resort’s enduring legacy. “For four decades, Diamonds Malindi has been at the heart of Malindi’s tourism story, offering exceptional hospitality while actively supporting the local community and promoting sustainable tourism practices,” he said.

This announcement comes at a time of optimism for Kenya’s tourism sector, as the festive season and school holidays promise increased bookings. Kenya recorded a 21.3% rise in international visitors in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The surge highlights renewed global interest in Kenya’s coastal destinations, with Malindi emerging as a favored choice for its serene beaches and rich cultural heritage.

Mrs Sara Rosso, President of Plan Hotel Group highlighted the resort’s commitment to sustainability. “We are proud to operate initiatives such as our organic vegetable farm and butterfly sanctuary, which not only reduce our environmental impact but also support local communities. These efforts reflect our belief that tourism can thrive hand-in-hand with conservation.”

Diamonds Malindi has directly employed over 180 staff members, positively impacting more than 1,000 families over the years. The resort has played a key role in fostering partnerships with the county government and local businesses. Mr. Rosso urged collaboration, stating, “We invite our partners, local businesses, and government agencies to join us in revitalizing Malindi as a premier tourist destination. Together, we can ensure its bright future.”

The evening also saw the unveiling of “The Malindi Experience,” a revitalization initiative aimed at reclaiming Malindi’s position as a top-tier travel destination. This campaign highlights the town’s cultural heritage, seeks to attract global investors, and strengthens partnerships within the local community.

Malindi, often called “Little Italy,” has witnessed a significant revival. The German tourism market, which flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, is making a comeback, alongside growing interest from French and other European travelers. Renovated resorts like Tropical Village, Dream Gardens, and Dream of Africa, including the renamed Diamonds Malindi, have welcomed a wave of international guests this festive season.

Tourism remains a vital pillar of Kenya’s economy, contributing foreign exchange, job creation, and regional development. In 2023, the sector generated 352.5 billion Kenyan shillings (approximately 2.7 billion U.S. dollars), a 32% increase from the previous year.

As Kenya’s coastline continues to enchant global visitors, initiatives like “The Malindi Experience” underscore a promising future for the region that offers a different level of tourism.
