If you’re a woman, you’ve probably developed insecurities while looking at your reflection once or twice. If only you could tweak a thing or two, like eradicate your stubborn pimples or have a better toned face. These insufficient thoughts lead to an appointment with Dr. Google, and while you want a quick cure to your skin concerns you wouldn’t want to waste too much money on it either. So DIY ingredients are your best bet, and anyone who has ever researched on DIY skincare methods has probably come across a thing or two that included lemon, it’s almost inevitable.
We needn’t go into the nitty gritties of how beneficial lemon is to your skin; we understand it’s good for you. However, these DIY recipes can be monotonous and difficult to keep up with, particularly if you don’t have the time or discipline. So how about we take the idea of the fruits we love to apply on our faces (particularly those with citrus) and make things slightly easier. The following ingredients include:
- Citric Acid Powder- Around Kshs 70/-
- Water
- Cotton Wool- Kshs 100/-
This has been something I’ve been using for a while now. It works best when you apply it on your face (preferably right before you head to the shower) at least 2 times a week. My face appears cleaner, brighter, and more flawless. When applied to skin, citric acid can remove dead skin cells and speed new cell turnover. It promotes new skin growth that can help lessen the appearance of age spots, acne scars, small wrinkles and areas of uneven tone and texture.
Method: Keep in mind that citric acid is still an acid, too much of it could cause your skin to burn, so be moderate with the amount you’re using. I’d recommend ¼ of a tea spoon of Citric Acid Powder. Mix the same with a ¼ of a cup of water. The citric acid should be as minimal as possible; if you can somewhat just taste the citric in the water then it’s enough. When applied to the skin it should only sting slightly for a couple of seconds, maybe 10 at most, anything more and you’ve probably put too much. After that your face should feel relatively normal or at ease.
Use the cotton wool to apply the formula generously throughout your skin; you’d be surprised by how much dirt your face can accumulate. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, and then wash it off using your facial cleanser/soap. This tends to leave your skin quite dry, so apply your usual moisturizer right after you clean up your face. Repeat the same a few times a week, and watch the fascinating results as they unravel on your mirror.
